Terms of Use

Version 1.3 · Last updated 24 September 2026

These terms govern your use of the LP247 marketplace, whether you are a customer, an engineer, or a letting agent or social housing organisation. They explain how the marketplace works, the platform fee, and the responsibilities of each party.

1. The marketplace model

LP247 is an online marketplace that introduces customers (private householders, letting agents and social housing providers) to independent, self-employed Gas Safe registered heating engineers. Engineers on LP247 run their own businesses — they manage their own diary, availability, pricing, standards and work. LP247 is not the employer, principal or contractor of any engineer and does not supervise, direct or warrant the quality of any work carried out. The contract for the gas safety or boiler servicing work is between you and your chosen engineer. LP247's role is limited to matching, scheduling, payment facilitation and form delivery.

2. Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account, booking a service, registering as an engineer, or registering an organisation, you confirm that you have read and accept these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the platform. We may update these terms from time to time; material changes will trigger a re-acceptance prompt. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

3. Customer terms

Customers may search for engineers by postcode, view public availability, and book a boiler service or gas safety check. When booking by card, your card is authorised (held) but not charged until the engineer accepts the job within 48 hours; if the engineer declines or the window expires, the hold is released automatically with no charge. The service is carried out by the engineer, and any complaint about the quality, safety or completion of work must be directed to the engineer. You are responsible for providing safe access to the property and accurate information about the appliance.

4. Engineer terms — independent contractor status

Engineers are independent contractors and not employees, agents or partners of LP247. Each engineer is solely responsible for their own tax, National Insurance, insurance, compliance, workmanship and any liability arising from their work. To be listed, an engineer must hold a valid Gas Safe registration, which LP247 displays with a link to the official Gas Safe Register so customers can verify independently. Engineers must keep their Gas Safe registration, public liability insurance and any other required credentials current and notify LP247 of any change. Engineers are responsible for the accuracy of the information they publish on their profile.

5. Engineer terms — platform fee and payment

In exchange for the customer introduction and use of the platform, each engineer pays LP247 a flat platform fee for each completed booking (the default is £3 per booking, which LP247 may adjust per engineer at its discretion). There is no commission or percentage charge. When a customer pays by card, the customer's payment is held via Stripe and only captured after the engineer accepts the booking and pays the platform fee. The exact fee amount is disclosed to the engineer in their portal before any booking is accepted and is recorded on their account. Card payment is the only payment method on LP247. Engineers must connect a Stripe account before they can receive any paid work, from customers or organisations.

6. Organisation terms

Letting agents and social housing providers may register an organisation to bulk-manage gas safety across their portfolio. Organisation members can import properties, match them with engineers who have opted in to organisational work, and assign jobs to approved engineers using the engineer's published organisation-only availability. Assigning a job to an engineer requires that the organisation has vetted and approved that engineer; engineers may block specific organisations from viewing their credentials or assigning them work. Organisation members are responsible for the accuracy of their property data and for obtaining any necessary tenant consents. Organisations agree to the service agreement terms (including the fair pricing framework, abortive-visit terms and GDPR provisions) at registration.

7. Compliance and Gas Safe verification

LP247 requires every engineer to provide a valid Gas Safe registration number and card. Because there is no public Gas Safe Register API, an LP247 administrator manually checks each engineer's registration on the official Gas Safe Register before approving them. The date and time of that manual check is recorded and displayed on the engineer's public profile and search card. The manual check is valid only on the day it is made, and customers are encouraged to verify the engineer's registration themselves using the provided link. LP247 does not guarantee the ongoing validity of any engineer's registration between checks.

8. Payments and refunds

Card payments are processed by Stripe. A held card authorisation is released if the engineer does not accept within 48 hours. Refunds for completed work are at the engineer's discretion and must be negotiated directly with the engineer; LP247 does not hold customer service payments and cannot force a refund, though it may suspend or remove an engineer from the platform for serious breaches.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LP247 is not liable for any act or omission of any engineer, including the quality, safety, timeliness or legality of work performed, or for any loss or damage arising from the work. LP247's total liability arising out of or relating to these terms is limited to the platform fee paid by the engineer in respect of the relevant booking. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence).

10. Accounts and conduct

You must be at least 18 years old to use the platform. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You must not misuse the platform, provide false information, attempt to circumvent payment or matching systems, or harass other users. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms or that we reasonably believe have done so.

11. Changes to these terms

We may revise these Terms of Use from time to time. When we do, we will update the version number and date shown on this page. Material changes will require re-acceptance on your next login. Your continued use of the platform after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

12. Complaints

If you have a complaint about the LP247 platform, our service, or an engineer's conduct through the platform, please follow our Complaints Procedure (available via the site footer). We will acknowledge complaints within two working days and aim to resolve them within fifteen working days. Complaints about the quality, safety or outcome of gas work should be directed to the engineer first, as the contract for the work is between you and the engineer. We are not currently obliged to use alternative dispute resolution (ADR), but if we cannot resolve your complaint we will signpost you to an appropriate ADR provider or to the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

13. Governing law

These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights you may have in your place of residence.

14. Consumer cancellation rights

If you are a consumer, you have the right to cancel a distance contract within 14 days without giving a reason under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. However, where you ask for the gas safety or boiler service to be performed within that 14-day period, you give your express consent for the work to begin and acknowledge that, once the service has been fully performed, you will lose your right to cancel. You may still cancel free of charge before the engineer accepts the job; after acceptance, any refund due is handled between you and the engineer as set out in these terms. The pre-contract information and your acknowledgement of these cancellation rights are recorded at checkout.
